The Learning Studio

The Learning Studio is a state-of-the-art, open-plan, learning environment for school use, modelled on principles being adopted in the Building Schools for the Future programme.

Every aspect of the room is multifunctional. Flexible desking gives access to PC or Apple Mac technology on demand, providing opportunities for individual and collaborative work. If access to technology is not required, the computers retract neatly back into the desks to leave clear tabletops.

In the presentation area, tiered seating houses storage lockers for pupil belongings. At the flick of a switch, the 3 metre display screen can move from displaying 2D content to an engaging three dimensional experience, allowing learners to explore 3D objects or virtual environments.

The design features include:

  • Five large tables, purpose-built to each house six PCs and two 24″ iMacs
  • Completely flexible desk designs. Each PC is hidden within the desk, and can be lifted up individually or hidden again as required. The iMacs similarly hide within the desks and are lifted by a remote control system. This gives access to ICT resources on demand, while allowing non-ICT activities to be carried out on large, clear table surfaces
  • A permanent staging area with tiered seating and large screen
