Designing an online portfolio in Dreamweaver
This course will lead participants through the process of designing an online portfolio in Adobe Dreamweaver, and demonstrate the use of Dreamweaver’s simple template system and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to create a consistent, attractive design. Participants will also consider wider issues of web design, including the structure of navigation, web usability and accessibility for disabled visitors. The session has been planned and delivered in collaboration with Sue Savage, the Local Authority’s ICT Advisor.

Film-Making for the Non-Specialist
With the development of a range of user-friendly video editing software such as the Apple Mac’s software iMovie or the PC software Movie Maker, it is possible to create a professional quality short video sequence with no prior video editing knowledge.
This course is aimed at teachers who wish to explore how the film making process can enrich teaching and learning in the classroom. The course will explore the processes and techniques required to shoot and edit a professional quality film. During the day participants will study movie footage, film language, and learn the basics of video editing. Participants will experiment with camera angles and shots, and how to use them to best effect.
By the end of the day participants will have had the opportunity to plan, shoot and edit a short film.

Maximum Benefit, Minimum Risk - Internet Literacy For Teachers
(note that this is a half-day course)
As the Internet expands, and new, exciting tools and web media are unveiled, the opportunities for the web to enhance learning increase. However, with these enhanced opportunities comes increased risk. During this practical session, participants will:
- Learn strategies to help pupils stay safe on the web Learn about the structure of the web and to “read” a web address (url)
- Learn how search engines work, and how to move beyond Google to identify appropriate, relevant sources of information.
- Learn how to teach students to use the internet more effectively and to look for the warning signs that may indicate an unreliable site.
- Gain insight into the educational impact of new web technologies.
The course will encourage teachers to make better use of the internet in enhancing the learning of their students.

An Introduction to Apple Maintosh
The Apple Macintosh platform offers an easy-to-use alternative to Windows PCs. It is particularly suited to working creatively with digital media; video, photographs and music.
Apple Macs are suitable for use in all Key Stages and for both ICT and cross curricular projects. This course is a practical introduction to the features of the Mac operating system and of the core iLife software suite, which includes iMovie (video editing), iPhoto (photo editing) and GarageBand (music creation).
Participants will have hands-on experience of using these applications to manipulate and combine photographs, narration, text, video and music to create a short film.
