Podcasting

DSC02542

Podcasting is the latest major development in digital media. A podcast is a radio programme brodcast over the internet. Many thousands of podcasts are now in regular production around the world. Major broadcasters such as the BBC are using podcasts as a means of distributing the best of their content. Using tools such as iTunes, listeners can subscribe to podcasts on topics they are interested in and automatically download new episodes as they become available to a PC of MP3 player.

During the podcasting day, students will plan and record a group podcast. The choice of topic for the podcast could be any curriculum area, or simply a reflection of the students’ interests and lives.

Using Apple’s easy-to-use, yet remarkably sophisticated GarageBand software, students will edit their podcast, adding music loops and ’stingers’ (musical breaks) to structure their podcast into a professional broadcast. Podcasts will then be uploaded to the City Learning Centre website. From there, they can be streamed over the internet, downloaded, or accessed via iTunes.

For examples of podcasts created by learners working with the City Learning Centre, visit the podcast section, or the Learning2Go Blog and podcast at www.learning2goblog.org
