On 31st Oct. 2007, as part of a 2-day project on space and space travel, Year 9 students from The Northicote School participated in a video link-up with Dr. Matthew Kenworthy, an astronomer working at the University of Arizona in Tucson, USA. During the interview, students asked Dr. Kenworthy about his research, his life in the USA, and about “hot topics” such as the Moon Landing “hoax”, life on other planets, and the future of the Sun and our Solar System.

Dr. Kenworthy very kindly agreed to speak to the students at 7 a.m. in Arizona (2 p.m. GMT).

Here is the video of the complete interview:

You can also download a 3gp (mobile phone) version of the interview, or an audio-only MP3, using the links at the top of this post.

The Session Reports for The Northicote project days are online now (Day 1 Report, Day 2 Report)

What a brilliant idea and what a brilliant person to speak to!!!!!
It was great to see our lad, so early in the morning!
We miss him a lot, but he is doing what he has wanted to do since he was about 10 years old and loves it.
Keep up the good work. Hopefully other kids willl feel inspired to reach for the stars.

    Me again,Matt’s mum.
I should say that Matt wrote to Patrick Moore when he was 11, and the encouragement of the reply he received set Matt on “going” for his ambition. Sir Pat has kept an interest in Matt and his 2006 Year Book has a contribution from Matt about his work in Arizona.
Just to say to any would be astronomers or astronauts out there, that although it may seem to be impossible to achieve: Go for it!Your teachers will give you every encouragement as did Matt’s teacher’s at his school in Ewell Surrey.
    All good luck.
