Berrybrook Primary Art Gallery project - 3rd / 4th July 2007

filed under Session Reports July 4th, 2007 CLC Student

Yesterday, a group of Year 3, 4 , 5 and 6 students from Berrybrook Primary visited Wolverhampton Art Gallery. They were accompanied around the gallery by Art Interpreters from the Education Team at the the gallery. They also used a PDA tour, written by the CLC in collaboration with the Art Gallery, to explore the Georgian Gallery. The tour challenged the student with a number of interactive exercises to try to understand the symbolism and composition of paintings by artists such as Gainsborough, Edward Turner and Fuseli.

Today, the students are attending a follow-up session at the CLC. During the session, students will:

  • create their own portrait using images taken, in costume, at the art gallery. (see the gallery section for the pictures)
  • take part in an interactive web quiz.
  • record narrations for several of the paintings they saw at the art gallery for inclusion into a 3D version of the gallery in MissionMaker.
  • submit blog entries on their experience at the art gallery.

What the teacher said:

The children had a fantastic day - very full and exciting. Very well organised. Excellent resources. Good fun and entertaining as well as educational. Children have increased their knowledge of how to interpret paintings and their understanding of art in general.

I really had fun for the two days. I wish I could stop
here all day. I had fun on Dumpr.net and making us look
funny. It was a little bit sad for Penelope at the age
    of 6 to die.

Yesterday I learnt a lot about the different portraits and I learnt that pictures make stories. I loved the pop area because I learnt that pop came in the late 50s and 60s and I learnt about screenprint. Screenprint is when you get a sponge and wipe it down the screen of the page.
