Coppice Y8 Space Day - 2nd May 2007
Today, we’ve been working with Year 8 students from Coppice Performing Arts School. Students have been learning about space (How far away is it? How big is it?), the principles of rocketry and surviving in space. Students have participated in a number of practical activities, including building compressed-air powered rockets and Mars Landers to successfully land an egg dropped from the CLC’s balcony.
Here are a couple of the links we used:
- Top Gear Robin Reliant Rocket (YouTube) - not accessible from inside the Wolverhampton schools network . .
- Hubble Ultra Deep Field Image (Wikipedia)
What the teacher said
The session flowed really well, and was hands-on and informative. All pupils were engaged and really enjoyed it. The most positive outcome of the day was the focus of the pupils on the tasks set and the level of cooperation they showed with one another.
