East Park Juniors - Creative Writing with Kar2ouche - 30th April 2007

filed under Session Reports April 30th, 2007 Eddie Wedderburn

Today, I’ve been working with Year 6 students from East Park Junior School. We’ve been creating fantasy stories using Kar2ouche Reading and Writing Stories. The stories were looseley based on ¨The Wizard Of Oz¨. We imported black and white photos of the students to form the start of the story (¨We’re really bored¨), entering the fantasy world (¨What is going to happen to us?¨) and the return home.

The students had to:

  • plan a story
  • select characters, settings and props
  • import photographs
  • write a schort script
  • compose slides to tell the story
  • record voice-overs for the characters
  • edit the story to improve pacing, spellings etc.

I was really impressed by the results. The students already had some knowledge of Kar2ouche and took their skills to the next level over the course of the day.

What the teachers said:

The session was delivered effectively to the children and supporting staff. Children really enjoyed their time at the CLC. The most positive outcome was being able to see the beginning and end of the project within the time limit. We intend to use the children to participate in training staff in an INSET day back in school.
