Heath Park Web Design Session - 15th March / 21st March 2007
I’ve been leading two web design sessions with students from Heath Park Business and Enterprise College. Working in Adobe Fireworks and Dreamweaver, students have created simple four-page sites for a fictional company. Look at images from the sessions in the Session Gallery.
Key topics/activities for the days included:
- The History of the Internet
- What makes a good website? (including looking at some bad websites . . . .)
- Evaluating an existing website: usability, accessibility, navigation structure etc.
- Simple logo design in Fireworks
- Using CSS (separating style from content)
- Adding links / images

- FrySteel.com - “Mystery Meat Navigation”, inaccessible - what not to do . . .
- Lynx Viewer - a good tool to understand how a site will sound if read by screen reader software to partially-sighted or blind visitors.
- The Wayback Machine - view webpages as they looked in the past

i thought that the day was very educational.
I believe that Today was an excellent day because we learned so much. Richard Anderson was a great teacher and i think i have learned alot from him about Web Desisn. I hope i get then chance to visit here again. Could you please take my E-mail address so you can send me a letter because i want to know PLEASE could i come here for work experience in about 2 years. Thanks alot for today i hope we could do something like this again.
today has been ok. at first it was really borin but as the day went on it was better. the thing that i enjoyed the most making my own website. i was the person who made the walsall website and i thank you for such a great day. i have learnt alot. thank you again.

i thought it was ok but in parts it was boring
I think the day was good and i learnt a lot about what makes a good website,i also learnt how to make a website on dreamweaver and i enjoyed this a lot the only things i think that wernt goog was the lack of food suplies:there were no vending or canteen machines and i was starving!!!
it was a very informative day. maybe one day i might b able to use them. thats if i become a web designer. THANKSSSSS!:) a very good day.
