Moreton at The City Learning Centre - Space Day

IMG_0332.JPGWe have been learning about the atmosphere and space. We had to answer/estimate how far we thought space was away from earth and suprisingly it is only about 80-100 miles away {only a few people sat down then some even stayed to billions!!!!!}. We then started to make our rockets, which when they are finished are going to be launched outside the City Learning Centre. We started making them by wrapping a piece of cardboard around a pole. All this and it was only the morning.

A pupil at Moreton said “one of the best experiences of her life” another said “it was fabulous we learned so much we didn’t even know I thought it was fantastic”

We watched a couple of rocket launchers which even though one wasn’t real it looked great it was from apollo 13 {the film} the way the effects were it looked real!!!!!.

We then started to add extras to rockets which was excellent everyone then started to get even more excited about launching the rocket.

After that a pupil at Moreton said “I am excited to be launching the rocket because I am determined to beat everyone else”

Everyone is enjoying their experience at the City Learning Centre there is not one person who is not doing a thing everyone is involved everyone is creating their own rockets working and cooperating with each other even though people may be in groups of friendship everyone is getting on well.

The teachers with Moreton are enjoying themselves as well they are even helping out with building the rockets.

We have had a report on the rockets {the history}, we learnt the inventors of Space Rocket who were Von Braun, Goddard, Tsiolkvsky. We learnt that the Americans kidnapped Von Braun so he would invent rockets for them.

The first rocket that launched was actually not American it was Russian!!

Everyone is sitting watching and listening carefully because they want to know more about space and rockets.

All the people at Moreton School {and the teachers!!!!} have listened and enjoyed the morning at the city learning centre and they have asked a lot of questions which Richard {the person who has taught us a lot about space} has answered.

IMG_0349.JPGWe then launched the rockets which the one that went the furthest was the group’s rocket that was not expected actually went the furthest but the group that was expected to win didn’t even go from the pole!!!!!

We then moved on to our afternoon session, we were all wondering what was in store for us. We have just found out how all the astronauts can go to the toilet in space and funny to find they have to be stapped to the toilet!!!!!

We have just found out our next task which is MARS LANDER. We will have to build a machine which will alow a egg dropped from a height to land without cracking!!!

IMG_0387.JPGWe have all got objects given to us which include 1 egg, 1 balloon, 1 plastic cup and 1 sheet of A4 paper. We have also been given a shop where we can buy other components. These include large white bag, balloon, paper cup, 1 sheet of A4 paper, 1m of string and some sticky tape!!!We have also been given a time limit to work to.

We have all finished our designs and we are getting ready to drop them from the balcony.

We have dropped all the balloons and luckily only three out of seven eggs cracked.

All in all we thank all the City Learning Centre crew which gave us this day and especially Miss Ward and Mr Dolan for bringing us here!!!

It was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life and I left there with the experience of wanting to be a rocket scientist.
