The world in your handheld - the Learning2Go blog and podcast project

filed under News November 17th, 2006 Richard Anderson

l2gosmall.jpgThe Local Authority Learning2Go team and Wolverhampton City Learning Centre are collaborating in an innovative project to utilise the power of RSS newsfeeds on the mobile devices of learners in the Learning2Go Initiative (BBC Help pages - What is RSS?). The project has three components:

  1. A blog and podcast site at www.learning2goblog.org to publish podcasts (online radio programmes), ebooks and Learning2Go news.
  2. The distribution of a special version of the newsfeed/podcast receiving software FeederReader for the PDA, modified especially for educational use by its author Greg Smith in collaboration with the CLC.
  3. Support for Learning2Go schools in creating their own podcasts.

The first podcast from the project, created by Year 6 learners at Wednesfield Village Primary during a session on Tuesday, has now been published at www.learning2goblog.org. Their great podcast features an interview with the school’s headteacher Mr. Carruthers, a book review, and vox pops from around the school on the topic of friendship.

You can listen to the podcast online now by streaming it over the internet, downloading it, or subscribing to the newsfeed so that you will automatically receive further episodes. Please feel free to submit comments on the podcasts by using the comment form on the Learning2Go blog and podcast site; all comments are moderated before appearing. Learners at participating schools would love to receive your thoughts on their work.
