(28/09/05) Four students from Highfields Science Specialist School are to spend 10 days visiting Kennedy Space Centre in Florida and Johnson Space Centre in Houston, Texas. They will meet astronauts and space scientists and visit Shuttle launch sites and the Vehicle Assembly Building, one of the biggest buildings in the world.
To win the competition, the youngsters, Hitesh Patel and Samantha Allbrooke from Year 13 and Archana Kapoor and Lawrence Clark from Year 10, had to use their ICT skills to investigate key topics of modern space exploration and produce an electronic presentation. They are due to leave for the trip of a lifetime on October 20, accompanied by physics teacher Mr Balrag Mehmi.
The competition was organised by ISSET (International Space Science Education Trust), in collaboration with Wolverhampton City Learning Centre and Wolverhampton Education Business Partnership. The students were aided by an Enrichment programme organised by Wolverhampton Astronomical Society and Wolverhampton City Learning Centre.
Well done to all of the students who took part!
